Review + Giveaway: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I actually learned about this book from Goodreads' 2011 Best Humor category. I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't know who Mindy Kaling was until then. Sadly, I didn't check out The Office until 2012 (thank you, Netflix).

Once I discovered the hilarious, awesomeness of The Office, I connected the dots that Mindy Kaling is a comedy writer and played the girly, dramatic character, Kelly Kapoor.

Mindy's witty, bubbly self shines in this book. I flew through her fun childhood, teen, college, and early career memories. I really connected with her bookishness, struggles with weight and image, and love of ridiculous comedy (Monty Python).

The second half of the book was a little slow for me. She writes about her past with hilarious detail, but seemed more private about her day-to-day life now. I thought she would include more stories about working on The Office. Only a few pages are decided to it.

As a whole, I'm looking forth to watching Mindy's career and The Mindy Project (once Netflix streams it!).

  6. Being a 90s kid, I grew up watching Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence on several shows, and now they have a sitcom together that is a great break from everyday stress for me called Melissa and Joey. I'm also a fan of Big Bang Theory and Chelsea Handler.
