Top Books With A Halloween Vibe - 2022

Top Books With A Halloween Vibe - 2022

Is that pumpkin spice or mulled cider in the air? Ah, yes, that time of year, again. For this year's Halloween Top Ten Freebie post, I decided to share my recent TBR pile additions with a Halloween Vibe.

Poems For Nighttime - Collection from B&N, if you read it outside at night with the sound of the ocean, you might not wanna leave.

Autumn, Ten Little Jack-O-Lanterns, and You're My Little Pumpkin Pie - A few of my girl's favorite fall themed picture books.

We Can Count On Eleven - I can't wait for the final season of Stranger Things...even though I have a bad feeling they'll kill off either Steve or Jonathan as an easy way to resolve the love triangle with Nancy.

Snowmen At Halloween - Has it ever snowed in the South on Halloween? I've had a few rainy Halloweens, no snow though.

Cryptic Club - Creepy cute from the fabulous Sarah Anderson.

I Am the Wolf - RIP Mark Lanegan, super underrated - soulful lyrics that walk on the dark side.

Chasing American Monsters - Many I'd never heard of, but I'm fascinated.

Bear or Big Foot? IDK...

Happy Halloween!

Bookish Halloween Costumes 2019

Bookish Halloween Costumes 2019

I love costumes, mostly I guess, because I love the theater and the amazing storytelling behind productions from Shakespeare to new classics (Cats, Hamilton).

So, bookish halloween costumes? Even better!

Here's some I like and would try in the future (it's cold and rainy and I'm so pregnant '^-^).

A Book Fairy - The wheels in my head are turning. You could hand out a piece of candy attached to a bookmark.

Katniss Everdeen - I have the jacket as a raincoat! But I never officially cosplayed as Katniss. Woot for the Hunger Games new book though.

Anne of Green Gables - Easier, maybe, if you have red hair? But wigs or colorful Halloween dye are a thing, too.

Molly Weasley - Mom goals, anyone??

Ms. Marvel - Arguably a very easy and comfortable comic book costume compared to Batgirl or Wonder Woman or Captain Marvel.

Elizabeth Bennet - Classic Lizzie for a day look, maybe, and Zombie hunter for the evening?

Vin from Mistborn - So well done! I'd like to have a mist cloak in my future.

Pete the Cat - Kudos to a character I first learned about from the Decatur Book Festival. I would actually love to do a Pete the Cat family theme.

Book - If all else fails, just be the book you're reading or writing!

Halloween Costumes For The Very Bookish

Halloween Costumes For The Very Bookish

In past, I've done characters I'd like to costume/cosplay. This year, I'm recommending some offbeat ones that non-bookish people may or may not "get".

Jane Austen - Oh, to own a Regency style dress, throw out Pride & Prejudice quotes, and offer people autographs with a quill!

Bambi - Doesn't everyone love Bambi?? I had a lot of fun reading and writing the review for the classic. Cool example found on Pinterest!

Boo Radley - Southern Literature's man of mystery. Also fairly easy to pull off, just add newspaper, scissors, and maybe some soap dolls.

Edgar Allan Poe's Raven - Be sure to rap at people's door and cry "Nevermore!"

Edgar Allan Poe's Purloined Letter - Not to be outdone by spooky birds, you could also be Poe's mysterious lost letter. Be sure to hide out in the open! I couldn't find an example...but this idea would work if you make it more "antique" looking...

Hogwart's Sorting Hat - Why be judged by the hat, when you can be the hat? Have fun labeling people into groups all night long. Thanks, cosplay dot com.

The Eye of Sauron - Nothing's more creepy than keeping an eye on all Middle-Earth, especially hobbits. Photo credit from Kerry My Heart blog.

Buttercup the Cat - Forget Katniss, Buttercup is the real survivor of The Hunger Games series!

The Twilight Apple - I guess one could argue that the whole series started with that fateful apple...be sure to add some glitter to dazzle everyone.

Dune's Giant Sandworm Shai Hulud - Thank you, instructables.com for actually having this costume! Be sure to have sugar and spice and everything nice for your fellow party go-ers.
